At this point, the dust has settled from the bustling excitement caused by latest untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x. While a good deal of the jailbreak community have upgraded to the latest untethered jailbreak, there are still many who are apprehensive, some of who are relying on Ultrasn0w unlocks. If you have been holding out on updating to iOS 6.1 for fear it will break your unlock, you'll be happy to know that Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 is now available. This enables you to unlock your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 6.x.
Before you get too excited, Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 is a compatibility update for iOS 6.x. This means if you are expecting support for new basebands, then you are in for a disappointment. On top of that, Ultrasn0w does not support new iPhones like iPhone 5 and 4S, just the iPhone 4 and 3GS. As mentioned, don't get your hopes up because Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 is an update to allow users to soft unlock their iPhones on iOS 6.x.
List of Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 Supported Basebands:
iPhone 4
- 01.59.00
iPhone 3GS
- 04.26.08
- 05.11.07

Before you update to iOS 6.1 and use Ultrasn0w 1.2.8, make sure you use tools like Redsn0w andSn0wbreeze to create a custom IPSW that will preserve your Ultrasn0w supported baseband. This is a very important step to take, otherwise you will lose your unlock. When you have successfully preserved your baseband and updated to iOS 6.x, install Ultrasn0w by adding the official repo (http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com). The repo should be present by default.
